I remember while playing FFXI you could change your main profession at will. That made it extremely nice because I could dedicate more time to 1 character than being forced to use one main profession per character.

Of course you couldn't change it without stopping what you were doing and going to your mog-house.

merging and renaming seems to be what everyone is expecting

necro + rit = shaman

warrior + paragon = soldier

etc..

I think we can assume all the proffesions stay. I mean we can store armor from all profs intothe HoM.

I heard a few rumors over the past couple of weeks they might be getting rid of assassin's due to countless complaints.
I could care less, I rarely PvP =P

since areas are non instanced now i suppose monks would play a very different role...and would probably be split between classes so that everyone self heals

It's going to be non-instanced?

That could be good... or bad.

Guessing... Warrior, Monk, Ele, Ranger, Necro for sure, not so sure about the rest.
Man, if only these classes would make it to GW2 some people here would be in 7th heaven.

definately have to go with the: Every race shares classes (monk, warrior, ranger, etc), however in one way or another make them unique to each race. Like Asura necromancer (as stated in the "Finding the Bloodstone" level by livia, that Gadd is a necromancer) would summon "mechanical constructs" while maybe humans (if they are still in GW2) will have "fleshy creatures", and Charr will have their "Charr effigy's" (or what ever they are called). I think you get the point, they are all summoning classes, but their summons are unique to each race (plus it makes more sense, odd to see a charr summoning golems). And same goes for the other classes, same idea, different unique abilities Theory.

One thing that's always turned me off to RPGs w/ multiple races, is where it is advantageous to make characters of certain professions as certain professions, because of racial bonuses or penalties.

I would like to see choosing your race be more a matter of appearances and concept than min-maxing.

As far as professions go, GW has a nice model since they are very broad. I feel that getting too specific w/ classes only hurts the game - needing a "doctor" to heal instead of a monk, (just as an example), would be bad.

I also feel that what would make GW2 amazing would be to have built-in synergies for different combinations of professions - perhaps a warrior/monk would gain access to a 3rd group of skills, since it could be considered a paladin. A necro/ele could get some lich-like skills. A ranger/monk could get druidic skills, an assassin/mesmer could get something else...

Lastly, I would like to see the 3rd dimension used a bit more. I'm not necessarily saying we need to become flying archers, but some rope climbing/swinging and jumping would be neat.

Not so much racial bonuses / penalties. but simply different models (in the case of my example, different models for summons). Different skins never hurt . Kinda lame for every race's classes to have the same animation for spells or skills / skin for armor and weapons / summons / etc.

It's gonna be a "new world" so there may be a closer WoW approach, like even a race choice. Its probably just a rumor, but A-Net is planning the sh*t out of this.

About the jumping and rope climbing thing ^^^ read the wiki part, it says that they will bring the z-axis into play, jumping over things n such. Read it if you have any questions, alot of questions I see posted in this thread are answered in it.

Although I'm sure a lot of things arent written in stone yet, and will be changed.

yea, based on A-Net's interviews and guildwiki, lotsa merges, as said before, and a lot of WoW-ing. New playable race n stuff, such as charr and Norn, and new classes. But nothing is concrete...

"ArenaNet has announced that Guild Wars 2 will contain persistent maps, unlike Guild Wars, which had instanced maps. "

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/GW2

This is in reference to explorable areas, dungeons and missions will be instanced however

As far as I know, you won't be able to actually use any of the stuff in the HoM, just show it off. "Look, this is what my GW character used to have! Aint it kewl!"

As far as the "story" line of GW2 goes, your characters will be the descendants of the characters from GW. Also, because there are new playable races, it wouldn't make sense for your new Norn character to try to squeeze into your old human armor (for example)

I get the impression (from what I've read) that when you start a new character in GW2, you'll be able to specify which, if any, HoM is associated with that character. So, for example, if you were to start a Norn warrior in GW2, you could tie it to, again just for example, your Assassin's HoM from GW. Obviously though, you wouldn't be able to use the Assassin's weapons and armor.

i'm not sure this has been mentioned or not, but i think it will be something like the elderscrolls type of race/class thingy. certain race have certain advantages/ disadvantages. the profession/class will as it is now, but only one, no secondary, just a combination of race/class....that's what i think it will be.. but only anet knows...

eh, does it sound like lineage 2 ?
